Saving Grace

Helping Horses Help Humans • Marquez, Texas

Did you know a horse can feel your heartbeat from 8 feet away? Every year, over 20,000 horses face slaughter in the USA. We rescue them, heal them, and together — they heal us.

Our Mission

From Kill Pen to Green Pasture

We rescue equines from the worst situations imaginable and give them the care, time, and love they need to thrive again.

🐎

Rescue

We pull horses, donkeys, and ponies from kill pens, slaughter trucks, and law enforcement seizures — giving them a second chance at life.

💚

Rehabilitate

Every rescued animal receives veterinary care, proper nutrition, farrier services, and patient rehabilitation on our acreage in Marquez, Texas.

🏡

Rehome

Once healed and thriving on our 100-acre pasture, our horses are matched with loving forever homes through our adoption program.

Transformations

Every Horse Has a Story

These are real rescues. Real transformations. Your donations make each one possible.

Before Sparkles before rescue - emaciated with ribs showing

Sparkles arrived severely emaciated, every rib visible, body scarred. She was weak, frightened, and had almost given up.

After Sparkles after recovery - healthy and filled out

Meet Sparkles

From skin and bones to shining bright

With months of patient care, proper nutrition, and love, Sparkles has filled out beautifully. Her coat gleams and her spirit has returned — living proof of what your donations make possible.

Before Noir before rescue - thin and neglected

Noir arrived thin, her coat matted and dull, standing alone in the cold. She was malnourished and had lost all trust in people.

After Noir after recovery - healthy and grazing at sunset

Meet Noir

From neglected to nourished

Now Noir roams free on green pasture, her coat gleaming in the Texas sunset. She’s put on healthy weight and greets Caren every evening at feeding time — a bond built on patience and love.

Before Traveler before rescue - severely emaciated

Traveler was severely emaciated, every bone in his body visible through his dull coat. He was barely strong enough to stand, grazing weakly just to survive.

After Traveler after recovery - strong and healthy

Meet Traveler

One year later — a whole new horse

One year of dedicated care transformed Traveler completely. He’s filled out, stands tall and strong, and has become a favorite on the ranch — even the dogs love him.

Rescued Horses, Healing Humans

Healing Horses Training Academy

Our rescued horses don’t just get a second chance at life — they give one back. Through our Student Riding Program, children learn horsemanship, build confidence, and experience the profound healing power of the horse-human bond.

Equine-Assisted Healing

Our rescued horses have a gift for reading emotions. Working with them helps children build trust, manage anxiety, and develop emotional resilience — healing that goes both ways.

What started as rescuing one horse from a kill pen has grown into a full operation spanning over 100 acres, where horses are rehabilitated and readied for their forever homes.

When she’s not in the pasture, Caren is an accomplished artist who paints murals and wall art, and teaches art classes to her community.
